New TV show project!

2 people sitting at a table waving. On the left is Koomah, an intersex person wearing a grey medical mask. Koomah has tan skin and tufts of black hair at their temples. They have black asymmetrical glasses and are wearing a white t-shirt with a grey snake print short sleeve button up shirt over it. On the left is Alexis, a transgender woman with white skin and shoulder length brown hair. She is wearing a grey short sleeve t-shirt.

Koomah (The Houston Intersex Society) and Alexis (Transgender Foundation of America) at the first on-set production meeting for our new collaborative TV show projects: “The Intersex History Roadshow” and “The Trans History Roadshow”!

The Trans History Roadshow is a project funded by a grant from The Idea Fund administered by Diverseworks in partnership with Aurora Picture Show and Project Row Houses and funded by The Andy Warhol Foundation.

The Intersex History Roadshow is a self-funded project.

Featuring items from both The Houston Intersex Society and Transgender Foundation of America’s history archives, the shows present intersex and trans community history through rare artifacts and expert interviews, offering insight into the rich history of both the intersex and trans communities.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Community Center Update!

New curtains hung in the center.

A lot of work has gone into updating this building, and we’ve made some great progress!

Side by side image. Left side shows unfinished hallway with plywood underflooring being installed. Right side shows finished hallway with terrazzo tiles installed.
Before and after hallway

The whole interior has been repainted and new baseboards have been placed. We placed plywood underfloor and layed terrazzo tiles in the hallway upstairs. We refinished the parquet mosaic flooring (and replace a few missing mosaic tiles) and sealed the stairs. The bathtub and tiles were removed from the bathroom to replace with a shower. Hand dip dyed curtains hung downstairs and new bookcases to hold archive items assembled.

Thanks to Koomah, Abel, Ricky, Jennifer, Mel, and Stephanie for all your hard work and volunteer superpowers!
